Two American women set off to explore the Amazon rainforest. What started out as an adventure became something more. They experienced firsthand the power of the plant world to nourish and heal. • The U.S. National Cancer Institute has identified 3000 plants that are active against cancer cells. 70% of these are found in the rainforest.
• More than 20% of the world's oxygen is produced in the Amazon Rainforest.
• The destruction of the rainforest means less rain, less oxygen, and an increased threat from global warming.
• Rainforests once covering 14% of the earths land surface now cover only 6%. Experts estimate that these could be consumed in less than 40 years.
• 1 1/2 acres of rainforest are lost every second. In a year, deforestation claims an area twice the size of Florida.
